Suggestions:
Try adding…
- 14.5 oz. can of Aldi’s Sliced Stewed Tomatoes* (Break tomatoes up with a wooden spoon for a chunkier sauce or puree with an emersion blender for a smoother sauce.)
- Use Vidalia onions for a sweeter sauce or Spanish onions for a heartier sauce)
- 1 small green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 teaspoon basil pesto
- 1 tablespoon fresh chopped basil
- 1 pinch red pepper flakes
- Parmesan cheese
- 1 lb. 95% lean ground beef or turkey
- 1 pkg. cooked sliced sweet or hot Italian sausage
History:
This is my mother’s recipe. While the sauce was simmering on the stove, Mom would place one side of a slice of soft white bread on top of the sauce and let us eat it as a treat. Delicious!
