1 lb. ground beef, 95% lean
1 lb. bacon
8 slices of cheese (cheddar, pepper jack, or mozzarella)
8 hamburger buns
1 onion, finely chopped or grated
1 large egg
½ cup plain breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons Sweet Baby Ray’s® Barbeque Sauce
Grill (or a George Foreman Grill or frying pan)
Preheat oven to 400°F. Place a cooling rack on top of a sheet pan and spray lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Place bacon on top of the cooling rack. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes at 400°F or until bacon is golden brown and done to the desired crispness. Allow bacon to cool. Crush crispy bacon into bite-size pieces. Put crushed bacon, ground beef, onion, egg, breadcrumbs, and barbeque sauce into a large bowl. Mix ingredients with your hands until fully combined. Do not over mix. Cut mixture in half. Then cut each half in half. (Stop here to make 4 quarter-pound hamburgers or cut in half to make 8 eighth pound hamburgers.) Place hamburgers on the grill and cook until done to your liking (medium, medium-well or well-done). Add a slice of cheese if desired and close the grill to allow the cheese to melt. Serve on your favorite toasted hamburger bun or Kaiser roll.
To melt cheese using a George Forman Grill – place cheese on a fully cooked hamburger and place in the microwave for 1 minute or until cheese is melted.
This is my husband, Dan’s recipe.
